receive data from satellites and weather probes? Join us in this TinyGS S
tation Workshop where you’ll build and program your own ground station a
nd antenna to receive data from space. This hands-on\, beginner-friendly w
orkshop is perfect for anyone interested in radio\, electronics\, IoT\, an
 tenna design\, and space exploration.\n\n## TinyGS\n[TinyGS](https://tinyg
s.com/) is an open\, community-run network of ground stations distributed
around the world to receive and operate LoRa satellites\, weather probes\,
and other flying objects using cheap and versatile modules. With a TinyGS
ground station\, you can receive data from a variety of sources\, includi
 ng CubeSats.\n\n## What You’ll Learn\nDuring the workshop\, you’ll lea
rn how to build and program a TinyGS ground station and a quarter-wave gro
und plane antenna. No prior experience is required. We’ll provide the ma
terials\, tools\, and equipment to guide you through the process.\n\n## Re
quirements\n- A device with a web browser and WiFi\, such as a phone or la
 ptop\n- A [Telegram](https://telegram.org/) account\n- No previous experie
 nce required\, beginner-friendly\n\n## Materials Costs\nIt costs **€80**

 o-for-total-newbies-workshop\n\nDescription:\n**[Arduino](http://arduino.c
c/)** is an amazingly powerful tool that is very simple to learn to use. I
t was designed so that artists and non-geeks can start from nothing\, and
make something cool happen in less than 90 minutes. Yet\, it is powerful e
nough so that experienced expert geeks can use it for their projects as we
ll.\n\nThis workshop is easy enough for _**total newbies**_ to **learn all
you need to know to get going on an Arduino.**\n\nParticipants will make
their own Arduino clone\, and set it up on solderless breadboards to make
their own [TV-B-Gone](http://www.tvbgone.com) remote control to turn off T
Vs in public places -- a fun way to learn Arduino (and electronics) basics
.\n\n**Materials costs**: \nThe workshop is free\, but if you would like
to partake in the hands-on aspects of the workshop\, Mitch will have mater
ials for **€40** (useful for making many different cool projects).\n\n**
 Taught by** [Mitch Altman](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitch_Altman).\n\n
_**Optional**: Bring your laptop if you want to go home with the free Ard

and Linux._\n\n**Workshop page:** \n[Arduino For Total Newbies workshop

ort lesson to learn everything you need to know about electronics!\n* Then
we will learn to solder. Don't let this scare you! I've taught tens of th
ousands of people to solder\, most of whom have never made anything before
in their lives. It is actually a very easy skill to learn. It is also ver
y useful.\n* Then we will each make our own Arduino clone from a kit.\n* N
ow that we each have our own Arduino board\, we will set up the free and o
pen-source *Arduino software* on our laptops (if you bring one) -- Windows
\, Linux\, and MacOS are all fine!\n* And then its time to make something
and learn how easy it is to use Arduino! I'll (very easily!) show you how
to read schematic diagrams\, and you'll put together your own TV-B-Gone re
mote control using your Arduino clone board. We will use a solderless brea
dboard. These are really useful\, and provide a fast\, and very easy way t

Sensor\n\nAir pollution affects many people’s daily lives\, not only tho
se living near industrial centres. In Ireland\, official air quality monit
oring relies on a limited number of sensors\, so local and short-term poll
ution sources can be missed. In this 90-minute\, hands-on workshop\, you
’ll build your own particulate matter (PM2.5) air quality sensor using a

the workshop\, you’ll assemble a working PM2.5 air quality sensor and ge
t it online. We’ll cover the basics of IoT devices\, local data collecti

what the numbers mean\, what these sensors are good for\, and where their
 limits are.\n\n## Materials\nYou’ll work with:\n- ESP8266 board\n- SDS01

orer Badge Soldering Workshop\n\nIn this hands-on build-and-explore worksh
op\, participants assemble their own **[EMF Explorer Badge](https://emfexp
lorer.space)** using guided soldering instruction\, learn the science of e
lectromagnetic frequency bands\, and plug in headphones to *listen* to the
invisible world around them. Every participant takes home their own explo
ration kit: badge + headphones\, ready for EMF exploring with an illuminat
ed badge that can be used at night for visibility and bling.\n\n---\n\n###
 ## Material Costs\n€20 - €30\n\n---\n\n##### Workshop Itinerary\n- **W
elcome + Electronics and Soldering Info** We will show you how to solder.
Anyone who can safely hold a soldering iron can do it! It is actually a ve
ry easy skill to learn. It is also very useful.\n- **EMF Explanation and B
adge Creation Overview** Learn about what EMF is\, where it comes from\, a
nd how the badge works.\n- **Badge Assembly** Get to soldering! We will be
available to help you along the way.\n- **Check your work\, and power up
your badge!**\n- **Wrap-Up + Q&A**\n- **Live Exploration!** You are surrou
nded by interesting electronics at 39C3. Go exploring! What new sounds do
you hear? Some of the most unassuming electronics can make the most intere
sting sounds.\n\n---\n\n##### Registration Info\nBuy a kit at the Hardware
Hacking Area to guarantee a seat\, or come by early! (And please do arriv
 e early\, regardless!) First-come\, first-served.\n- **Age:** anyone who c
an safely hold a soldering iron\n- **Experience level:** No prior solderin
 g experience required\n- **Take-home:** Your assembled badge + headphones
 included\n\n---\n\n##### Links\n[EmfExplorer.Space](https://emfexplorer.sp
 ace)\n\n---\n\n##### Instructor Notes\nThis is a **beginner-first hardware
workshop**. The goal is skill building\, curiosity\, and real-world elect
ronics exploration. The badge is both a tool and a conversation piece: it
senses EMF\, plays it through audio\, and glows for visibility and bling.

e will learn to handle the tiniest electronic components\, which are used
to make modern electronic devices. We will cheat the same way the electron

 our-own-brain-machine\n\nDescription:\nWhat is a **[Brain Machine](https:/
 /cornfieldelectronics.com/cfe/projects.php#brainmachine)**? It's a fascina
ting device that generates light and sound pulses at brainwave frequencies
. These can help achieve various states of consciousness\, such as meditat
ion or improved sleep.\n\nIn this workshop for **total beginners** we will
  all make a **[Brain Machine](https://cornfieldelectronics.com/cfe/project
s.php#brainmachine)** that is preprogrammed with a really nice meditation
sequence. As well as a device that can help you relax and meditate\, a nic
e bonus is that everyone hallucinates beautiful colors and patterns along
the way.\n\nThe Brain Machine is totally [open hardware](https://github.co
m/maltman23/Brain_Machine_kit)\, and created to be hackable\, so you can r
e-program it with any computer\, with software that is free to download an
d use.\n\nThis workshop is for **total beginners** to learn to solder.\n\n
 For ages 10 - 100.\n\n**Materials costs**: \nThe workshop is free\, but i
f you would like to partake in the hands-on aspects of the workshop\, Mitc

our laptop if you want to go home with the free Arduino software installed

I've taught tens of thousands of people to solder\, most of whom have neve
